My chosen profession to discuss is a Logo Designer. This area of work tends to be more specified but just as free as the general web designer. Many Logo Designers are free-lance workers that get hired on a one-time basis for an individual company. The company that hires them would either want a redesign of their own logo or an entirely new style and design to complement their business.
The initial setup for a logo designer would be to meet with the determining committee that represents the company and find out what they want from the logo. There could be thousands of different requirements but the logo designer must take into account what is deemed necessary and what can be cut out. I know that this sounds all business but there is an element of fun with it too. The logo designer is free to make whatever he/she likes. The limit is whatever they could dream up. Generally, the designer would come up with at least three design concepts to show to the committee.
I want to continue in this field of graphic design because I found this to be a very fun form of design. I had to do research on the company that was assigned and then create a successful design for it. Since this work tends to be more free-lance than if I was under a design firm, it tends to come and go for a pay check. But I think that the work is fulfilling.

2D Concept Artist
I thought about choosing 2D concept
artist would have been an interesting field to work in since I love drawing and
sketching designs of characters and animals. However, I never really understood
how difficult it could actually be. In the field of conceptual design, there
are many different types of artists for different parts of the design process.
For those in the 2D field, this number is very small and limited.
To understand the field, a 2D
concept artist can work in fields like games, film, comics, or anything
related. They work closely with the art directors and story boarders to create
the basis for the overall work. They create the designs for the characters and environment
that will affect the “look” of the finished product.
The concept artist has to make many
deadlines, so they have to create quick, non-detailed idea sketches that relate
to the concept of whatever idea is currently being discussed. The art that is
produced can be made from any medium including traditional (drawings or clay
molds) or 2D software (Adobe Photoshop). Whatever medium is used provides a
demonstration for the producers, art director, and whoever else may be in
charge.
This group of individuals has a
tendency to work in small groups (2 to 10 people normally) as opposed to the
hundreds of 3D artists who may reside in the same building. Because of this,
the demand for 2D artists is very limited, but some consider the spot a “holy
grail” among the jobs.
While the work may seem hard, I
still would like to pursue such a job, especially if it means that I may be the
one to influence the outlook or a particular movie or game. While I would be
drawing according to the art director’s vision, I would still make some sort of
impact on the design.
Web Graphics Designer
My topic is web graphic designer this field is a wide open
arena in that it can cover basically any arena in which you can have a picture,
logo, or even the typeface to convey a visual image. You are not limited in
what you can do but what your imagination can come up with. Imagery is what you
are trying to compose to show everyone what you are about and to what you are
selling or advertising, for that is the bases of web design and graphics arts
is to get out there and sell your designs.
In web graphic designing you are taking graphic arts and
manipulating the images to any medium that can be imagined. By adding colors, shapes,
and fonts your original designs can tell a tale from serine to exotic. Keeping
a very open and creative mind you will go far stretching your known limitations
and working outside the box. You can design large billboards, a home page for a
business, advertisements, and comic spreads as long as you are open to new
ideas and willing to try all aspects of the design business there is basically
nothing to stop you from achieving your goals.
Having the ability to work in many different formats and
mediums will also open up your clientele base, with a computer background and
combining this with an artist’s fine arts knowledge there is virtually no place
you cannot find work. Now with the portability of laptop computers your office
can be anywhere in the United States or abroad.

Film Director
Film Director
Being a film director is a lot of
hard work, and quite a bit different than what most people think of when they
imagine a film director. The first thing
that comes to mind when talking about a film director are the many
responsibilities that a director has to oversee.
The
director is the captain of a sinking ship, overseeing everything from the
performance of the actors, to the camera angles used, the tone of the film, the
music used, and in most cases the editing of the film. It is the director’s job to set the tone of
the shoot. They have to deal with multiple egos, dozens of departments, which
oversee hundreds of people, as well as make a cohesive and entertaining film.
Most
directors attend a film school, or have some other form of filmmaking
experience prior to directing their first full feature. At film school they
learn how to break down shots, the different angles and lenses to use, and
study multiple techniques on how to make a film. However, this is not always
the case, especially today with many online sources and documentaries available
to teach the same information. A large number of film directors often get their
starts from film commercials and music videos. This experience helps them while
shooting their first feature film.
Film
directors have a tough job, and often don’t get the credit they deserve.r
Underwater Photography
Underwater Photography is an
interesting field. It’s an adventurous activity,
hobby, or career. You can do this type
of photography anywhere there is water pretty much. Imagine the possibilities! You can take pictures in lakes, rivers, and
even oceans.
Did you know that around 70 percent
of the world is ocean and much of that ocean is still a mystery to humans? That is a great reason to photograph in the
ocean because you probably will come across something unique eventually. Also, the ocean contains a wide variety of species
of salt-water creatures in fairly clear waters.
Underwater photography is no easy
task, at least if you’re planning on taking a decent picture. First you need an underwater camera, so don’t
go putting your everyday camera in the water, or you’ll end up with a very wet paperweight. Different depths of water have different
pressures, so make sure your underwater camera can withstand the pressures of
the water you plan to shoot in. Also,
the deeper you go, the less sunlight available to capture the variance of
colors your subject possesses.
Not only do you need a camera, but
you need gear to assure your safety.
There is simple snorkeling equipment for those who don’t wish to go too
deep, but there is also scuba gear. If
you’re diving deep, you need to be able to breath right? And you need a wet suit to protect your skin
and keep us warm in colder depths.
The main thing to educate yourself
on when planning on doing underwater photography is to prepare. Know what to equip yourself with. It can be a fun activity, but always take
precautions.

Cartoonist
Anthony Pickett
The career that I chose was a cartoonist for many reasons. I always loved drawling as a child and what could be a better job than drawling? There is however more to it than you'd think. A cartoonist is more than just a pencil and paper now days, cartoonists use many different formats and create works such as comic books, video game packaging, graphic novels, animations, greeting cards, magazine photos, and many more. Years prior to our current advances in technology cartoonists had to draw every picture frame by frame in their cartoons which was a lot of work. Cartoonists now days still share a pretty hefty workload all the same, because of advances in technology cartoonists have the ability to do many more things and to create many more characters and stories.
The tools that cartoonists use for the preliminary stages of their design are as follows, a variety of pencils and paper, waterproof ink and a Bristol board, a brush for the ink, dip pens, fountain pens, or a variety of technical pens or markers, mechanical tints, and various paints such as, acrylics, gouache, poster paints, or watercolors. They artist might also use crayons or pastels or colored pencils. There are several other tools the artists may use depending on the project obviously erasers are an important tool but the artist may also need certain tools such as a scalpel or adhesive tape depending on what the job is that the cartoonist is doing.
The reason I want to be a cartoonist is simple. Drawing pictures has always been a hobby of mine and I think its fun, and I do not want to go to a job everyday that I hate. The freedom a cartoonist has when creating his/her characters is wonderful and exhilarating. The have your tools laid out in front of you and having the freedom to make a piece of art out of nothing is a feeling I hope to experience one day.

Video Game Designer
Video Game Designer is widely used by everyone and is used to describe a computer designer. However they are two separate jobs. The designer starts with an idea for a game, plans out a story, sights and sounds. It's the Designers job to develop the overall concept and story of the game. Think of it as being an architect of a building.
You are in charge of the entire design and people that work with you to finish it. It's the same with being a Designer. He sets the framework of the game and works with the design team. The requirements for this position are a combination of creative and technical skills. Writing, performing, visual arts and music are especially useful.
The most important are excellent computer skills to understand the many problems you can encounter in development. Since the Video Game Designer is a leadership position, you need management and leadership skills to direct the work of a game design team. The salary of design jobs varies widely from $35,000-$75,000 a year. However this was reported in 2001 so it could've changed by now.
