Film Director
Being a film director is a lot of
hard work, and quite a bit different than what most people think of when they
imagine a film director. The first thing
that comes to mind when talking about a film director are the many
responsibilities that a director has to oversee.
The
director is the captain of a sinking ship, overseeing everything from the
performance of the actors, to the camera angles used, the tone of the film, the
music used, and in most cases the editing of the film. It is the director’s job to set the tone of
the shoot. They have to deal with multiple egos, dozens of departments, which
oversee hundreds of people, as well as make a cohesive and entertaining film.
Most
directors attend a film school, or have some other form of filmmaking
experience prior to directing their first full feature. At film school they
learn how to break down shots, the different angles and lenses to use, and
study multiple techniques on how to make a film. However, this is not always
the case, especially today with many online sources and documentaries available
to teach the same information. A large number of film directors often get their
starts from film commercials and music videos. This experience helps them while
shooting their first feature film.
Film
directors have a tough job, and often don’t get the credit they deserve.r
